Increasing the fire resistance of Clay / Hollow pot floors present a challenge as the assessment of thermal exposure and the estimation of the temperature distribution within the member is complicated by the presence of two differing materials.

The most practical way to increase the fire resistance of this particular construction is by initially upgrading the fire resistance of the hollow pots to the design fire exposure which allows the beam element of the floor to then be considered as exposed to fire from one side. The Aithon SFS coating has been specifically tested to upgrade the fire resistance of clay/hollow pots to R120.

The beam element of the floor then can be considered as exposed to fire from one side which is considerably less onerous than the calculations for a beam exposed to fire from three sides. Indeed, the level of fire exposure can sometimes determine whether the design fire rating can be achieved.

The Aithon SFS coating solution also provides other benefits when being considered against traditional systems
